Student Travel Grants

The 2019 Joint Conference and the IEEE Magnetics Society will both offer travel grants to a limited number of students who wish to attend the 2019 Joint MMM-Intermag Conference. The grants are intended to partially offset travel costs. Applicants may apply for a grant from the Conference or the IEEE Magnetics Society but not both. The Conference grants will be in the amount of $750 USD, and the Magnetics Society grants will be in the amount of $1000 USD.

CONFERENCE GRANT ELIGIBILITY

  • Support is for current students only. Postdoctoral fellows or non-students are not eligible.
  • The student must be presenting a paper at the Conference.
  • The student's supervisor must submit a letter of recommendation.
  • The student must NOT have previously received a MMM/Joint Conference or IEEE Magnetics Society travel grant.
  • Only ONE application per research group will be accepted.
  • Preference will be given to students who are nearing completion of their PhD graduate studies, although a limited number of Conference travel grants will be awarded to other graduate and undergraduate students.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A CONFERENCE TRAVEL GRANT?

  • To apply, the student must complete and submit the on-line application form.
  • The student’s advisor must submit a letter of endorsement.
  • Only complete applications will be considered.
  • Applicants will be notified of the committee's decision in early November.
  • The deadline for submitting applications and letters of endorsement is 5:00 PM EST on October 1, 2018.

IEEE MAGNETICS SOCIETY GRANT eligibility

  • Support is for current graduate students only. Postdoctoral fellows, undergraduates or non-students are not eligible.
  • The student's advisor must be a member of the IEEE Magnetics Society.
  • Preference for these grants will be given to those applicants who are student members of the Magnetics Society, nearing completion of their graduate studies and presenting conference papers.
  • Students who have previously received travel support from the Magnetics Society for any other conference are not eligible for a travel grant for Intermag 2018.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR AN IEEE Magnetics society TRAVEL GRANT?

  • To apply, the student must complete and submit the on-line application form.
  • The student’s advisor must be a member of the IEEE Magnetics Society and must submit a letter of endorsement.
  • In addition, a second letter of endorsement from another IEEE Magnetics Society member is required.
  • Only complete applications including all three documents will be considered.
  • Preference for these grants will be given to those applicants who are student members of the Magnetics Society, nearing completion of their graduate studies and presenting conference papers.
  • Students who have previously received travel support from the Magnetics Society for any other conference are not eligible.
  • Applicants will be notified of the committee's decision in early November.
  • The deadline for submitting applications and letters of endorsement is 5:00 PM EST on October 1, 2018.
  • Shortly after the Conference, grant recipients must submit a short account of their experience for possible inclusion in the Magnetic Society Newsletter and/or a wrap up account of the 2019 Joint Conference.

Note: Travel grants are a reimbursement for actual expenses. Thus, the students must attend the Conference and submit receipts to the Student Travel Coordinator. All grant recipients must also complete either a W8 or W9 before payment is issued. Complete details will be supplied to successful applicants.
